Nottinghamshire County Council is currently seeking views from local people on the future of Carlton Ferry Lane, the section of highway near Collingham that was badly damaged during the January 2025 flooding and has been closed for safety reasons.
The consultation explains that there are two main options being considered: either repairing the damaged section of the road or permanently stopping-up that section as a public highway. If the ‘stop-up’ option is taken forward and approved by the Magistrates Court, public rights of way along that part of Carlton Ferry Lane would be removed. Private access would remain and public access to the river would still be available via Northcroft Lane.
Nottinghamshire County Council wants to understand how Carlton Ferry Lane is used and how the options under consideration could affect local people and visitors. Responses from the public will be taken into account before any final decision is made.
The consultation is open until 20th February 2026. Comments can be submitted online via the consultation page, by email to martin.carnaffin@nottscc.gov.uk, or by post to Mr M. Carnaffin, County Hall, Loughborough Road, Nottingham, NG2 7PQ (all to be received by 20th February 2026).
Collingham PC encourages anyone with an interest in Carlton Ferry Lane to take a few moments to read the consultation information and share their views.
