Collingham in Bloom is celebrating after winning Silver Gilt overall at the prestigious East Midlands in Bloom Awards, held on 24th September at Grimsby Town Hall. Volunteers Phil Salathiel, Julie Parker, Jan Nicholson and Paul Nicholson proudly attended the ceremony on behalf of the village.
Alongside the overall award, Collingham projects shone in individual categories:
- Gold for the beautifully tended garden at Fruit Farm on South End.
- Silver Gilt for the vibrant planting at The Royal Oak pub, the result of a joint effort between the pub team and local volunteers.
- A Judges’ Award for Councillor John Wilson, who led community efforts at the All Saints triangle, where striking tractor tyre beds have been filled with herbs and flowers, and a new bench crafted from a fallen willow tree now offers a place to sit and enjoy the view.
- Best Permanent Landscape for Gusto at Beaufields
Parish Council Chair Iain Orme said:
“The Parish Council is thrilled to celebrate Collingham in Bloom achieving Silver Gilt at East Midlands in Bloom! This fantastic recognition is a testament to the dedication, creativity, and teamwork of everyone involved. A special thanks goes to our incredible Guerrilla Bloomers, whose tireless efforts have brightened every corner of our village. We are deeply grateful to the many businesses, community groups, and volunteers who supported us with time, resources, and enthusiasm. This award is not just about flowers, but about pride in Collingham, working together, and creating a welcoming, thriving environment for all.”
The Guerrilla Bloomers, an informal volunteer group who came together this year, played a key role in helping to brighten the village’s streets and green spaces. Their efforts, alongside support from local businesses and community groups, have created colourful displays and lasting improvements.
With bulb planting for spring already on the horizon, plans are well underway for the 2026 Collingham in Bloom campaign. After such a strong showing in Grimsby, the team is aiming high and looking forward to building on this year’s achievements.
