As part of our efforts to enter Best Kept Village 2025, we’re focusing on supporting local wildlife by creating vital habitats for some of our most beloved creatures – owls, bats, and hedgehogs. These amazing species are an important part of our ecosystem, and we want to ensure they have the spaces they need to thrive right here in Collingham.
We’re encouraging residents to get involved by creating or enhancing habitats in their gardens and local green spaces.
Here’s how you can help:
- Owls: Install owl boxes in tall trees or open spaces to provide safe nesting sites.
- Bats: Plant native trees and shrubs to create flight corridors, and consider installing bat boxes on buildings or trees.
- Hedgehogs: Create hedgehog-friendly environments by leaving small gaps in fences, adding log piles, and planting hedgerows for shelter and food.
These small actions can make a huge difference for our local wildlife. By providing safe spaces for these animals to nest, feed, and roam, we’re not only supporting biodiversity but also adding to the beauty of Collingham’s natural environment.
